A lamp and design object in one, the fe s.soft lt1 8 from feno fulfils all the criteria of contemporary light artists. This aspiration to quality has now been recognised by the jury of the 2013 red dot product design award with an “honourable mention”. The innovative luminaire was extensively tested, discussed and assessed by renowned experts in an evaluation process lasting several days, proving itself among the 4,662 product creations submitted.
Making the fe s.soft lt1 8 both noteworthy and impressive is a well-thought-out concept: before light and beyond. The core of the light is the shade made from satin acrylic glass. This ensures flawless distribution of the light without giving away the individual LEDs underneath. In addition, the fe s.soft lt1 8 doesn’t cast a shadow of itself due to the seamless transition between the shade and heat sink. The latter is milled from solid aluminium with each edge individually rounded.
The innovative bundling of data and power leads into a single cable minimises the installation effort. Last, but not least, the entire lamp is sealed against dust and water jets. An innovative pressure relief valve prevents the accumulation of condensation on the inside of the light. The product information is engraved by laser and underlines the fe s.soft lt1 8’s quality and longevity.
Following the prize-giving – part of the traditional red dot gala in the Aalto Theatre in Essen on the 1st of July 2013 – the fe s.soft lt1 8 will be on show for four weeks at a special exhibition at the Essen red dot design museum. And, soon after perhaps, in living rooms around the world.
By the way, feno was awarded twice at the 2013 red dot product design awards. The fe spot won the red dot.
