New brilliance for the Salzburg "Sky-Space" thanks to feno
One room, an opening, a piece of heaven. Surrounded by light – in ever changing nuances of colour. Here, the heavens form the heart of the "Sky-Space" in Salzburg. As with almost all his modern Skyspaces with LEDs, the light artist James Turrell implemented this impressive work once again with feno. Created in 2006 as part of the Salzburg Foundation’s Salzburg Art Project, the installation was regrettably wantonly damaged in 2009.
However, the "Sky-Space" shines on the Mönchsberg Mountain once again in a completely new light. With more brilliance. With even greater colour intensity. And with 40% energy savings thanks to the specially developed light system with high power LEDs which, complete with control system and software, was sponsored by feno. The new system was also programmed and installed by feno on their own account. For James Turrell, a sufficient reason for travelling to the restoration of his "Sky-Space" personally.
"We simply couldn't accept that visitors to the "Sky-Space" wouldn’t experience the work of art with its expressive power and James Turrell’s intentions," says Karl Weinhold, CEO of feno explaining his company’s commitment and continues, "In addition, the neon light system installed originally was already beyond the end of its normal life. The new LED light concept isn’t just longer lasting, it also uses less energy. In addition, more intensive colours can be created than previously."
With feno’s commitment, the Salzburg Foundation responsible for the Salzburg Art Project has a functioning Skyspace once again, which, with its subtle light design attracts many art lovers during the twilight hours.
"I think it’s fantastic that feno is committed to the cause with such passion and has enabled "Sky- Space" to light up again," beamed James Turrell.
"Sky-Space" is open daily (except Mondays). The opening times are oriented – according to James Turrell’s concept – on sunset. The installation can also be seen, on request, outside the opening times by arrangement with the neighbouring Restaurant M32 (Tel. +43 662 8410 00).
